Product Reviews

Ugly Stik Elite Salmon/Steelhead Cast is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 25.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Swap the guides out and pretty good rod. Bought the 9' XH and the 10'6" MH for trolling Chinook and Coho at Buoy 10 and Pacific Ocean in WA. Lost insert after insert from the guides. Took rods to a rod repair shop and had guides replaced with SiC guides. Cost about as much as each of these rods cost, but well worth it. For trolling these rods are solid. The 9' XH can bounce a ton of lead which is great during an exchange and bottom fishing Rocks, Lings, and Buts. The 10'6 MH great up to 16 oz. If Ugly Stik added better guides from the start, they be worth selling them at an additional cost. IMO. However for the money hard to beat, just extremely recommend replacing guides.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Salmon rod!! I bought the 8'6'' Heavy spin rod two weeks ago, and have landed many king salmon on it already this season. The rod has a great action to it thanks to the higher percentage of graphite used in the blank. I prefer using cork handled rods, which sold the deal for me when I saw this Ugly Stik elite the store. The only negative thing about this rod, is that it is a little heavier than some other rods on the market. I have been fishing Ugly Stiks for many years now, and I still have the very first one that I bought; The elite is fourth in my collection!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Poor guides I strongly feel quality has taken a hit with the ugly stik rods.. the guides are poor just one trip and I have grooves cut into the tip from braided line, stainless steel dose not hold up. I’m now looking into having them replaced with Fuji guides. There is excess epoxy around the guide legs looks like they are being built by rookie rod builders or somebody that really dose not care about there job. About the only thing I like is the rod blank they are slightly lighter and not as rubbery as the old sticks. With the right guides these are good rods just not with what comes on them expect to pay about what it cost for the rod to have a acceptable guides put on.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best steel head rod I bought a 8'6 medium heavy elite for Lake Erie steel head.So far I have hooked and landed over 30 steel head over the past 3 weeks.I push the rod to the limits on these fish. The rod is tough my reels well thats the problem I blew out a Diawa BG and 2 older Mitchell 300's so far.I have only one other steel head rod and I like it alot but the 8'6 elite took its place now.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent catfish rod I purchased two of these at Field & Stream in Erie PA. Both are the 9 foot extra heavy. They are light, incredibly strong and very comfortable to fish with. I mostly use them with live bait fishing for 20 to 40 pound flathead catfish. So far I've landed one fish over 30 pounds and this rod handled it perfectly. I would recommend them to anyone going after big fish.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hardy & Sensitive Rod I've used this rod for both salmon and steelhead in the Great Lakes (Lower Niagara River) and it has held up great. I have the 9' Medium rod and when casting lures it is sensitive enough to feel those light bites and is hardy enough to be bounced of rocks and reel in those 30+ lb Kings. If you want a great rod at a great price for big fish I would highly recommend this rod.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Rod! PNW Steelhead/Salmon This rod was a great purchase (9' Medium spinner). Picked up a few months ago after researching a few options and glad I went with this one. I have landed a handful of chromers so far with it - biggest has been around 35" (around 15 pounds) and this rod handled it like a champ. Sensitive enough to feel the light takes as well. I have not had any issues with the guides as other reviewers have mentioned (they were from a few years ago - I'm not sure if Ugly Stik has since changed their guides). I run a braided line to a fluoro leader and the knot that passes through the guides every time I cast has not made any chips or dings/kinks in the guides whatsoever. I've dropped this rod plenty on rocks and it has fallen a few times after leaning up against my car - no issues. I highly recommend this rod.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best salmon rod on the market! I live in Alaska, and use this rod for both kings and silvers. This is my 'go to' rod when I need some serious backbone and durability. For the price, nothing tops an Ugly Stik!
