Rated 5 out of 5 by SeaBass from Great rod and reel combo Just bought my new ugly stick rod and reel combo today. Water was a little rough to go fishing but tried it any way. 50 yard casts were easy, just couldn't keep it from coming in with the waves. First impression is I love it. $74.15 out the door at West Marine Hilton Head Island, SC. The Ugly Stick soft tackle box is a great addition too. $50 at HHI Walmart with goodies. (Makes me look like a serious Angler when it's my first time fishing in my 49 year life.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Lewis5377 from Tougher than any other!!!! I picked up this rod last year late in the fall when I was in the market for a new rod and I'm really impressed with it! I went fishing for striped bass two weeks ago and brought in a monster bass at 39.8". If this had of been on any other rod I don't know if it would have been the same out come, after hooking the fish it took a half hour to get it to shore and it was a real fight that put this rods strength and flexibility to the test. Thanks ugly stick for helping me land a monster fish!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Broomstraw from A great beginner setup for the money! I had always wanted to do some surf fishing in Panama City Beach, FL. We decided to spend 5 days in PC and I thought it was time to go fishing. After doing some research and spending time in the local tackle stores, I was more confused than ever. I went to the local Wal-Mart and there were lots of people there to talk with. I looked up and this combo was on clearance. For $45.00, I purchased the 7 ft combo. (Bargain!!!) I have always liked Ugly Sitk rods and figured this would be a good beginning setup, plus being two-piece, it would fit in the car. I loaded the reel with 20lb braid after using about 75 yards of mono-filament backer. Held the 150 yards of braid easily. Tied a Pompano rig on with a 3oz weight and headed to the beach. This rod casts very well with this setup. First big fish was a 10lb Red. Had not really set the drag properly so he ran about 50 yards of line before I got it set. Then, it was just a mater of time before I landed this fish. GREAT ACTION ROD! Over the next couple of days caught numerous fish including a couple of sand sharks. (One was over 2 feet long)! All in all....a great setup for the money!

Rated 5 out of 5 by bmrsnrfan from Does everything they say it will do I bought this rod and reel about 3 months ago and getting caught up in the stuff under the water, I have broken several poles before but not the Ugly Stick. It is extremely strong and durable! I actually got stuck on a small tree under water and the pole bent to almost 70° and didn't snap, crack or break. Got the line out and brought up the small tree. I am not kidding, you don't need any other rod! You would be a fool to not have this as your fishing rod!
