I bought four Ugly Stik Carbon 7'3" rods for my guide service hoping to get a tough rod that permits the clients to cast farther. I have been using 7' Lightning Rods. The new Carbons are little heavier/weight forward but they are durable, affordable and permit extremely long casts. I have not experienced paint chipping. The ruby red look is striking and they match well with Max Pro spinning reels.

I purchased this rod on November 19th. I have only took it fishing twice. The first trip I barely used it. Yesterday I used it a couple hours. I caught several small fish, none over 2 lbs. Then, when I set the hook on one around a pound and a half, it snapped and broke clean off right above the reel seat. Luckily I didn't fall backwards out of the boat. I grabbed the line and was able to pull in the fish by hand.
This rod is a cheap imposter. I have never had an issue with an ugly stik rod and have had dozens over the years. I recently purchased several of the carbon inshore rods. I hope they aren't as cheaply made.
Bottom line is this is not an Ugly Stik quality rod.
It looks good, feels good, but is a cheap piece of garbage.

Great rod with the history and pedigree to back it up. Bright red metallic paint with the bare bones look of the rod give it a unique but handsome and sleek look. Love the reel I paired it with. Rod construction is great as well and it really is lighter than my other rods with similar size and action! Unfortunately the big issue with this rod seems to be the poor quality of the paint. I have a noticeable chip on my rod already and I haven't even gone outside with it. Great rod if you don't mind the bad paint. Regardless, I am very happy with the rod and its looks! Can't wait to take it out soon!

SUPER strong, light, comfortable and sensitive rod. Amazing but the paint chips easily. I have had it for about a year and have caught several 4-5 pound bass with no complaint’s

Great rod as fare as function and feel, I would buy again. I would have given it 5 stars but the paint on the handle started chipping the 2nd time I took it fishing.
